How to track Perplexity traffic on Wix
Short answer: in your Wix dashboard open Analytics → Traffic Overview, go to Sessions and visitors by source and category, switch it to source and look for perplexity.ai. Then open the AI Visibility Overview and choose Perplexity to see visits and how often its bot read your site. Perplexity rarely adds a UTM tag, so links that are copied and opened later show up as Direct.

Most Wix sites belong to businesses that sell a service nearby: a salon, a clinic, a cleaning company, a studio. Perplexity answers questions about those businesses with a short written summary and a row of numbered source links, so a click from it usually lands on the exact page it quoted, such as a services, pricing or FAQ page.
Step 1: Find perplexity.ai in the Traffic Overview
- In your site's dashboard, open Analytics, then Traffic Overview.
- Scroll to Sessions and visitors by source and category.
- Use the drop-down to show the source instead of the category, then look for
perplexity.ai. - Change the date picker at the top of the page. It starts at 30 days, and Perplexity's audience is small enough that 90 days gives a fairer picture.
Look at the source, not the category. Wix sorts every visit into Paid Search, Paid Social, Organic Social, Email, Organic Search, Referral or Direct, and none of those is an AI group. A Perplexity click is filed under Referral with every other website that links to you, so the category view hides it.
Step 2: Open the AI Visibility Overview
Wix also has a page made for this question, the AI Visibility Overview, in the Analytics area of the dashboard. Wix says it needs a Premium plan. Choose Perplexity at the top of the page and find the section called Traffic from AI platforms. It shows two different numbers, and it is easy to mix them up:
- Site sessions from AI platforms: real visits, counted each time someone clicks a link in a Perplexity answer.
- User queries on AI: the number of times Perplexity's bot read your site because somebody asked a question. Wix records these for the ChatGPT and Perplexity bots only.
The second number is the more useful one on a small site, and no ordinary traffic report has it. If user queries are steady while sessions stay near zero, Perplexity is reading your pages to write answers and people are not clicking through. Wix also lists which pages the bot scanned, which tells you what Perplexity thinks your site is good for.
Step 3: See which pages Perplexity visitors land on
Go to Analytics → All Reports and, in the Traffic section, open Traffic by Entry Page. This lists the first page of each visit. Wix's help pages don't describe a ready-made report that pairs each entry page with its source, so treat this as a cross-check: compare the top entry pages with the pages the bot scanned in step 2. A deep page that starts appearing as an entry page, with no ad or social post pointing at it, is a likely Perplexity landing page.
Step 4: Check whether those visitors contacted you
Still in All Reports, scroll to the Marketing section. Three reports matter for a service business:
- Form Submissions by Traffic Source: which sources produced the most form entries.
- Click-to Contact Rate by Traffic Source: which sources led visitors to tap your WhatsApp, phone or email buttons.
- Order Conversion by Traffic Source: the same idea for stores.
Look for perplexity.ai in each. Wix offers several attribution models here, including First Interaction and Last Non-Direct Click. First Interaction is fairer to Perplexity, because people often find a business in an answer and come back days later to book. These are totals per source, not named customers.
Why UTM reports won't help with Perplexity
Wix decides a visit's source in a set order: an ad ID first, then UTM tags, then the referring website. ChatGPT tags many of its links, but Perplexity normally sends plain links with no tags, so the referrer is the only clue. When it is missing, the visit becomes Direct. That happens when someone copies your link out of an answer, opens it later, or forwards it to a partner.
Check that Perplexity is allowed to read your site
If the AI Visibility Overview shows no Perplexity bot activity at all, check your robots.txt. In the dashboard go to SEO & GEO, scroll to Tools and settings and open the Robots.txt Editor. Look for a Disallow rule under PerplexityBot or under User-agent: * that covers your main pages.
What Wix shows for Perplexity, and what it misses
| What the person did | What Wix records |
|---|---|
| Asked Perplexity a question that made its bot read your site | A user query in the AI Visibility Overview, and no visit |
| Clicked a numbered source link | A session from perplexity.ai, in the Referral category |
| Clicked through and sent your form in the same period | One more form entry for perplexity.ai in the Marketing report |
| Copied your link and opened it later | Direct |
| Read your name in the answer, then searched for it | Organic Search |
| Read your number in the answer and phoned | Nothing |
The last three rows are why a Perplexity count from any analytics tool is a minimum. Our post on WhatsApp and phone leads from AI covers how to count those.
Other assistants to check while you're there
The AI Visibility Overview also lets you pick ChatGPT and Gemini. For Copilot and Claude, go back to the source list from step 1 and look for copilot.microsoft.com and claude.ai. ChatGPT behaves differently because of its UTM tag, so it has its own steps in ChatGPT traffic on Wix. For Perplexity on other platforms, start from the general Perplexity tracking guide.
Connecting Perplexity to named leads on Wix
Wix's reports stop at totals per source. Which AI Sent connects to Wix in one click: you approve it on Wix's own “Add to site” screen (for Wix Premium sites with a connected domain). It gives Perplexity its own row next to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot, follows each visit to the form entry or booking it led to, and asks customers “How did you first hear about us?” so the ones who phoned are counted too. Perplexity traffic on Wix: common questions
Where do I see Perplexity traffic in Wix?
In your Wix dashboard open Analytics, then Traffic Overview, and find Sessions and visitors by source and category. Switch the drop-down to source and look for perplexity.ai. Widen the date range to 90 days, because the numbers are small for most sites.
Does Wix have an AI traffic report?
Yes. The AI Visibility Overview, which Wix says needs a Premium plan, has a Traffic from AI platforms section. Choose Perplexity to see site sessions from it and how often its bot read your site after a user's question.
Why does Wix file Perplexity under Referral?
Wix's traffic categories are Paid Search, Paid Social, Organic Social, Email, Organic Search, Referral and Direct. There is no AI category, so a click from perplexity.ai counts as a referral. Filter by source to see it.
Can Wix show which form submissions came from Perplexity?
As a total, yes. The Form Submissions by Traffic Source report in the Marketing section counts form entries per source. It does not label each entry with the customer's source, and it cannot count people who phoned.
