How to track Perplexity traffic on Webflow
Short answer: with the Analyze add-on, open the Insights tab, go to Site overview, click the Filter icon and choose Referral domain = perplexity.ai. Webflow's Generative AI traffic source also includes Perplexity, but it mixes it with ChatGPT and the other assistants. Perplexity rarely adds a UTM tag, so the Campaign Source filter won't find it, and links that are copied and opened later count as Direct navigation.

Webflow sites mostly belong to agencies, SaaS companies, studios and consultancies, and their buyers do homework before they get in touch. Perplexity is built for that homework: it answers a question with a written summary and a row of numbered sources, and each source is a link to a specific page. On Webflow that matters more than on most builders, because the paid analytics add-on, Webflow Analyze, can show both the page a Perplexity visitor landed on and whether AI visitors as a group completed a goal.
Step 1: Make sure Analyze is collecting data
- Analyze is a paid add-on. Without it Webflow has no traffic report at all, so skip to the last section or use Google Analytics.
- With it, open the Insights tab. Webflow's help says behavioural data isn't collected until Analyze is enabled, so there is no history from before the day it was switched on.
- If tracking is set to opt-in, visitors who decline consent are not counted, whichever assistant sent them.
Step 2: Filter Site overview by Referral domain
- Click the Insights tab, then Site overview.
- Click the Filter icon at the top left.
- Choose Referral domain and select
perplexity.ai. If it isn't in the list, no visit from Perplexity was recorded in the date range, so widen the range first.
Start with Referral domain and not with Traffic source. Webflow's Generative AI traffic source puts ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, Gemini and Perplexity into one number, and on most sites ChatGPT is the largest part of it. Perplexity disappears inside that total.
Step 3: Save Perplexity as a custom audience
Go to Insights → Audiences → New Audience, name it “Perplexity”, and add a rule where Referral domain contains perplexity. Webflow shows an Estimated Visitors count for the last 30 days as you build the rule, which is a quick way to see whether there is anything to measure yet. Once it is saved you can apply the audience on Site overview and on any single page without rebuilding the filter.
Step 4: Open Pages to see what Perplexity is quoting
With the filter applied, go to Insights → Pages. A numbered source in a Perplexity answer points at the page the answer was taken from, so the landing pages in this list are close to a list of the pages Perplexity trusts on your site. For a Webflow site these are often CMS items such as a case study, a pricing page, a comparison post or a help article, and seldom the home page. Check those pages for out-of-date prices, old screenshots and missing contact details before you write anything new, because they are already being read by buyers.
Step 5: Use a goal to see whether AI visitors enquire
Analyze has goals, under Insights → Goals, and you can create a click goal, a page view goal or a custom goal. A click goal on your form's submit button, or a page view goal on your thank-you page, turns enquiries into conversions. Open the goal and its report includes a Traffic sources section, which Webflow describes as showing which sources drive the most conversions, AI chatbots included.
Two limits apply. The traffic source in that report is Generative AI as a whole, so it tells you AI visitors converted but not that Perplexity's did. And Webflow counts at most one conversion per session and reports a rate, not a list of people, so you cannot open a conversion and see who it was. Webflow also says the report shows which audiences drive the most conversions, which is one more reason to save the audience in step 3.
Why Campaign Source won't find Perplexity
Analyze reads UTM tags automatically and shows utm_source as Campaign Source. That helps with ChatGPT, which adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to many links. Perplexity normally sends plain links with no tag, so a Campaign Source filter comes back empty and the referring domain is the only signal. When the referrer is missing too, for example when someone copies your address out of an answer and pastes it into a new tab or a team chat, Webflow records Direct navigation, which is also its fallback whenever a browser or operating system hides the source.
Webflow also assigns each session its most recent source. A buyer who found you through Perplexity on Monday and returned from a Google search on Thursday to fill in the form is counted as Search organic on Thursday.
What Webflow shows for Perplexity, and what it misses
| What the person did | What Webflow Analyze records |
|---|---|
| Clicked a numbered source in a Perplexity answer | A session with Referral domain perplexity.ai, Traffic source Generative AI, and the landing page |
| Clicked through and pressed your form's submit button | A goal conversion under Generative AI, if you set up the goal; not tied to the form entry |
| Found you in Perplexity, came back later from Google and enquired | Search organic for the converting session |
| Copied your link and opened it later | Direct navigation |
| Read your company name in the answer and searched for it | Search organic |
| Read the answer and emailed or called you | Nothing |
Because of the last four rows, any Perplexity figure in Analyze is a minimum. The cheapest fix is a required “How did you first hear about us?” field on your Webflow form with Perplexity as one of the options. Our post on wording that question covers the details.
Other assistants to check while you're there
Repeat step 2 with gemini.google.com, copilot.microsoft.com and claude.ai. ChatGPT needs a second filter because of its UTM tag and its apps, which is covered in ChatGPT traffic on Webflow. Clicks from Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode come from Google, so Webflow counts them as Search organic. For Perplexity on other platforms, start from the general Perplexity tracking guide.
Connecting Perplexity to named leads on Webflow
Which AI Sent works on Webflow today with one line of code. Paste it into Site settings → Custom code → Head code and publish (Webflow custom code needs a paid site plan). Our one-click Webflow app is still in Webflow's marketplace review, so the snippet is the way to connect for now. It gives Perplexity its own row beside ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot, follows each visit to the form submission it led to, and records the customer's answer to “How did you first hear about us?”, so buyers who emailed or called are counted as well. Every AI lead is marked Confirmed, Declared or Assisted by the evidence behind it. It doesn't need the Analyze add-on. See all integrations.
Perplexity traffic on Webflow: common questions
Where do I see Perplexity traffic in Webflow?
With the Analyze add-on, open the Insights tab, go to Site overview, click the Filter icon and choose Referral domain = perplexity.ai. Without Analyze, Webflow has no built-in traffic report.
Does Webflow's Generative AI traffic source include Perplexity?
Yes. Webflow's help lists Perplexity among the AI chat tools in the Generative AI source, together with ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot and Gemini. It is one combined number, so use the Referral domain filter to see Perplexity on its own.
Can Webflow show whether Perplexity visitors submitted a form?
Partly. A click goal or page view goal in Insights, Goals reports conversions by traffic source, and Generative AI is one of those sources. It covers all assistants together and gives a rate, not the individual form entries.
Why is the Campaign Source filter empty for Perplexity?
Campaign Source is Webflow's name for the utm_source tag. Perplexity normally sends plain links without one, so only the referral domain identifies it. Visits with no referrer are counted as Direct navigation.
