Tools to track brand mentions in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity
The tools that track brand mentions in ChatGPT and Gemini all work the same way: they ask the assistants a fixed list of questions on a schedule and record whether you are named, where, and which sites are cited. They differ in which assistants they cover, how many questions you get and what that costs, from free by hand to several hundred dollars a month.

How AI visibility tracking works
No assistant publishes a log of when it names your business. ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity don’t have a “Search Console” for mentions. So every tool, paid or free, does the same thing in different volumes: it sends prompts, reads the answers and stores four things.
- Mentioned: were you named at all?
- Position: first, third, or in a “you could also try” line at the end?
- Citations: which web pages the assistant linked or used as sources. These are often directories, review sites and comparison posts, not your own site.
- Competitors: who was named instead of you.
Most paid tools add sentiment and “share of voice”, which is your share of all brand mentions across the prompt set. The two choices that matter most are which assistants you need and how many prompts you need to check.
One limit applies to all of them. Answers change with the person, the place, the wording and the day, so a tool shows a sample, not a permanent ranking. Tracking the same prompts over weeks is what makes the numbers useful.
Can you track brand mentions in ChatGPT for free?
Yes. For a small business with one service area, a manual check once a month is enough to start.
- Write 10 questions a real customer would ask. Mix the general (“best roofer in Dallas”) with the specific (“roofer in Dallas who does insurance claims”) and comparisons (“is [your name] or [competitor] better”).
- Ask each one in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, logged out or in a private window, with web search on. Use the same wording every time.
- Log the result in a spreadsheet: date, assistant, question, named yes or no, position, competitors named and the sites cited.
- Repeat monthly and compare. One answer means little; a change across ten questions means something.
To skip the typing for ChatGPT, our free ChatGPT visibility checker asks three customer-style questions with live web search, shows whether you are named and who is named instead, and checks whether your robots.txt blocks AI crawlers. No sign-up.
Tools that track Gemini and Perplexity too
Coverage is where the tools differ most, so check the engine list against the assistants your customers actually use.
- Otterly.AI includes ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot on every plan. Gemini and Google AI Mode are $9 a month each on the Lite plan, and Claude is $29.
- Peec AI lets you choose 3 assistants on its self-serve plans, from ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot and Naver AI. Enterprise opens more.
- Ahrefs Brand Radar covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, AI Overviews and AI Mode. Its pricing is metered in checks, so each extra assistant uses more of your allowance.
- Profound tracks up to 9 engines on its Enterprise plan, including Claude, DeepSeek and Copilot.
- Semrush’s AI Visibility Toolkit help page names ChatGPT and Google AI Mode for prompt tracking.
Each tool in a paragraph
Otterly.AI: cheapest paid start
Lite is $29 a month ($25 billed yearly) for 15 prompts, with citation tracking and sentiment. Standard is $189 for 100 prompts and adds an API. Fifteen prompts is enough for one local business and one service; it runs out fast for an agency. Pick it if you want automated tracking at the lowest price.
Peec AI: daily tracking with unlimited seats
Starter is $95 a month for 50 prompts checked daily on 3 assistants, with unlimited users. Pro is $245 for 150 prompts and Advanced $495 for 350. It also reports visits from AI assistants through its crawler and referral analytics. Pick it if a team or an agency needs daily data and several people need access.
Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: if you already live in Semrush
$99 a month for 25 tracked prompts, with 50 more for $60 a month, and no free trial. Pick it if your SEO reporting is already in Semrush.
Ahrefs Brand Radar: see what people ask without writing prompts
Its AI Visibility Index draws on a database of more than 505 million prompts, so you can see how a brand shows up without choosing questions first. Custom prompt tracking is priced separately. Pick it if you want market-wide data on a brand or a category, not just your own list.
Profound: enterprise coverage
A free 7-day trial runs 50 prompts daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews. Paid plans are custom, with up to 9 engines, API access and single sign-on. Pick it if you are a large brand with a budget to match.
Which AI Sent: mentions plus the customers they send
Our visibility check is lighter than the tools above. Each week it asks ChatGPT the questions your customers would ask and shows whether you are named, who is named instead and which sites it trusted. It checks ChatGPT only. What it adds is the other end: the visits, leads, bookings and sales that ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Copilot send to your website, each labelled with the evidence. Starter is $20 a month. Pick it if your real question is whether AI recommendations are turning into customers. The difference between the two jobs is explained in AI visibility vs AI attribution.
What none of these tools can tell you
Being named is not the same as being chosen. A visibility tool can show that ChatGPT recommends you for “best mover in Austin”, but not whether anyone acted on it. People often read the answer, then search your name on Google or phone you, and analytics files them under Google or Direct.
Two cheap checks close that gap. In GA4, set up an AI channel so assistant visits stop hiding in Referral (our GA4 guide has a ready-made regex). And add “How did you first hear about us?” to your forms and calls, with ChatGPT and other AI assistants as their own options. Here is how to word it. More on connecting the two in how AI visibility turns into revenue.
How to choose
- One local business, tight budget: the free manual method or our free checker once a month, plus the “how did you hear” question.
- You want it automated across assistants for the least money: Otterly.AI Lite with the Gemini add-on.

- Category-wide research: Ahrefs Brand Radar.
- Large brand: Profound.
- You need to prove AI sends paying customers: Which AI Sent, alone or alongside any of the above.

AI visibility tracking questions
What is the best tool to track brand mentions in ChatGPT?
For automated tracking at the lowest price, Otterly.AI starts at $29 a month for 15 prompts. Peec AI and Profound suit teams that need daily data across more prompts. For a free one-off check, the Which AI Sent ChatGPT visibility checker asks three customer-style questions and shows who is named.
Can I track brand mentions in Gemini?
Yes. Otterly.AI (as a $9 add-on on Lite), Peec AI, Ahrefs Brand Radar and Profound all track Gemini. You can also check by hand: ask Gemini the same questions each month and log whether you are named.
Is there a free AI visibility tracker?
A spreadsheet and ten customer questions asked monthly in each assistant is the free method. The Which AI Sent checker does three ChatGPT questions for free, up to three checks a day. Profound has a free 7-day trial and Otterly.AI offers a free trial.
Do AI visibility tools show how many customers AI sends me?
No. They show whether assistants name you. To see visits, leads and sales from ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity you need tracking on your own website and a “how did you hear about us” question for people who never click.
How often should I check AI mentions?
Monthly is enough for a small business checking by hand. Paid tools check daily or weekly. Because answers vary from one run to the next, look at the trend across many prompts, not single answers.
