Guide · ChatGPT leads in SmartMoving

How to see which SmartMoving leads came from ChatGPT

Short answer: SmartMoving reports on referral sources, and it has no way of knowing a customer found you through ChatGPT. Which AI Sent now connects to SmartMoving directly: paste one key, and each new lead is created in SmartMoving with the AI assistant as its referral source and the pages the customer viewed in the notes. No Zapier needed.

Moving companies run on their referral source report. It decides where next month’s marketing money goes. The trouble is that “ChatGPT” never appears in it. A customer who asked an AI for “best long-distance movers in Austin” and then filled in your quote form shows up as “Website”, or as nothing at all.

What the connection does

  • Creates the lead in SmartMoving the moment it arrives on your website, with name, phone and email.
  • Sets the referral source to the AI assistant that sent them: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude or Copilot. Leads that didn’t come from AI get their real source too (Google, Facebook and so on).
  • Adds notes with how we know (for example “Visited from chatgpt.com 2 days before contacting you”), what the customer said when asked how they heard about you, and the pages they viewed in order.

SmartMoving adds a new referral source to your list the first time it sees one. After the first ChatGPT lead, “ChatGPT” sits in your referral source report next to Google and Yelp.

How to connect it

  1. In SmartMoving, open Settings → Sales → Lead Providers.
  2. Find Custom Lead Provider, switch it on, and copy the key it shows.
  3. In Which AI Sent, open Integrations, choose SmartMoving, paste the key and click Save.
  4. Click Send a test lead. A lead called “Test Lead (Which AI Sent)” appears in SmartMoving. Delete it once you’ve seen it.

It uses SmartMoving’s own lead provider connection, which is included in every SmartMoving plan. If you have several branches, you can add a branch ID so leads go to the right one.

One thing to check first

Many movers already have their website quote form wired straight into SmartMoving. If that’s you, connecting this as well would create each lead twice: once from your form and once from us. In that case, keep your form as it is and use Which AI Sent’s dashboard for the AI source, or ask us and we’ll help you pick the cleaner setup. The direct connection is best when leads reach you by email or a plain contact form and someone types them into SmartMoving by hand.

What about booked jobs and revenue?

The connection sends new leads into SmartMoving. To bring booked status and revenue back, so your dashboard can show money from AI and not only leads, either mark the lead Won in Which AI Sent or import a weekly export from SmartMoving. Rows are matched to tracked leads by email or phone.

Why this matters for movers

AI leads tend to arrive well informed: they’ve already asked the assistant about price, reviews and service area. If they are also your larger jobs, you want to know. Once the referral source is in SmartMoving, your normal reports answer that question without anyone stitching two systems together.

FAQ

SmartMoving and AI leads

Does SmartMoving track ChatGPT leads by itself?

No. SmartMoving records the referral source it is given. It cannot tell that a website visitor came from an AI assistant, so those leads usually appear as Website or with no source.

Do I need Zapier to connect Which AI Sent to SmartMoving?

No. It is a direct connection using a key from SmartMoving’s Custom Lead Provider setting, which is included in every SmartMoving plan.

Will it create duplicate leads?

It can if your website form already sends leads into SmartMoving, because both would create the lead. Use the direct connection when leads do not already reach SmartMoving automatically.

Which Which AI Sent plan includes the SmartMoving connection?

CRM connections, including SmartMoving, are part of the Pro and Agency plans.
